Air Conditioning, Chicago Style

Monday, June 21st, 2010

Chicagoans like their Summers hot, but love to return to a cool, comfortable home. But who wants to spend extra money on utilitiy bills? So reduce your home’s energy bills by about 10 percent by turning up your Programmable Thermostat when your at work or heading for bed. If you don’t have one, get one and use it. Here’s another tip: Did you know that installing an air conditioner in a shady spot could increase its efficiency up to 10 percent? That makes sense. Here another tip: Run your dishwasher, washer, and dryer in the early morning or late evening. These appliances create heat and your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard to offset the heat produced. But most important, dirty, clogged air condition units decrease the efficiency of your cooling system. We offer these clean & check service for thousands, for only $89. Enjoy your Summer.

Northbrook Furnace Repair Question

Friday, January 22nd, 2010

Q. Why does the temperature vary from room to room?

A. Could be a number of reasons. 1) Your vents in each room may need adjustments. 2) If the cooler rooms are the furthest from your furnace, you may require blowers to deliver the warm air to these rooms. 3) Your thermostat may not be located in the ideal location. Your thermostat reads the temperature where it is located. 4) Your furnace may be pooped out and you may want to explore a newer, more efficient model. 5. Even the humidity affects temperature. You may need to change filters, change humidity level, or get a new humidifier.

There are other reasons. All Temp can likely identify the problem and solution in short order, so consider scheduling a service appointment or hang in there until summer…then call us about your warmer rooms.

AFUE WORDS ABOUT YOUR FURNACE

Wednesday, October 28th, 2009

AFUE is an acronym standing for “Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency”. It serves as the measure of a gas furnace’s efficiency in converting fuel to energy - the higher the rating, the more efficient the unit. This translates to cost savings day after day, which means you will be writing smaller checks to the gas company. All Temp offers a number of high-efficiency models, like award-winning Bryant furnaces. If your furnace is approaching its tenth birthday, it might be time to look into a new one. Of course, a simple maintenance-check by an All temp tech will help you determine whether you can squeeze out a few more winters, or whether (for what you’re paying in outrageous gas bills) you will actually save money buying a new one. An All Temp Furnace clean-check-tune is only $89.95. If you should decide (and really need) to buy a new furnace, 1) All Temp’s prices are better than anyone elses and 2) good ole Uncle Sam is still handing out up to $1500 in tax credits for purchasing high-efficiency furnaces, and 3) you’re going to feel warm and cozy all winter long.

Funky Surprises

Monday, August 24th, 2009

Labor Day is ahead. Besides enjoying the day off, here is what you should tend to.
Replace the batteries in your home smoke detector.
Put away your white shoes. They look silly anyway.
Schedule a furnace “clean and check” to avoid any funky surprises.
Schedule a furnace “clean and check” to avoid any funky surprises.
It’s worth repeating. Right now you’re not thinking about your furnace, but the people at All Temp are.
Because with little notice, suddenly, the temperature is going to drop…a day here, a day there…and then a blast of Brrrr.
Everyone is going to start-up their furnace, and some furnaces are not going to work.
For less than $100 you can get an All Temp professional all-point Furnace “clean, tune and check”
with enough money left over to get new batteries for your smoke detector and black shoe polish for your white shoes.

Use a Club

Friday, June 19th, 2009

Why isn’t the Air working?
I shouted to my spouse.
It’s 84 degrees in here,
it’s like an oven in this house.

I told you to call All Temp, she said
and get the air conditioner tuned.
But you were too busy watching baseball.
And you said you’d do it soon.

Again, last week, I told you that
the AC was making noise.
You said that you would handle it.
Then went golfing with your boys.

I mentioned it again.
We’ve got to fix the air.
But you were on the computer
playing stupid solitaire.

Well I guess I didn’t hear you.
What else is new, she said.
If I didn’t shake you in the morning
you’d never get out of bed.

Okay. I know. You’re right.
But now what should we do?
–You stay home and wait for All Temp.
I called. They’ll be here at two.

The moral of the story is
To be heard, turn off the Sox and Cubs.
And get automatic maintenance checks
when you join the All Temp Comfort Club

Now - it is okay to forget.

Friday, March 27th, 2009

Okay, let’s face it. You know you save tons of money just by adjusting your thermostat when you leave the house for work, or when you go to sleep, or wake up. But it’s easy to forget. And Fido only knows how to retrieve your slippers. That’s why there’s “smart” thermostats– gadgets that remember your daily routines and adjust your home temperature automatically. You’ll be pleasantly surprised how affordable they are and easy to program and use. A few are so intelligent, they can sense both the indoor and outdoor temperatures and adjust your home temp accordingly. Nice, huh?
